Chapter 5 - Lair of the Lindwurm

The peephole revealed very little, other than a cloud of dust that was settling. In the corridor, more crashing could be heard, and the high pitched scream of a woman.

Cass was up in a heartbeat, gun already in her hand and ready to fire. She frowned as she glanced around the room, automatically counting off the number of Scions on the room. Fuck. One missing. Counting once more, she realised it was Thor's daughter who wasn't in the room. "Fenris, Thor's girl... she's not here," she said urgently. "We gotta go find her." It wouldn't do to have the wrath of the god of Thunder raining down upon them.

Fenris growled deep in his chest and was just about to call on static cling to help him in investigating when Cass declared the dumb shit was missing. "For fuck's sake. Stay in here, away from the doors, the old men might still be in the conference room." He opened the door and stepped out, closing it behind him and striding down the cloudy hall in search of the girl. "Thorsdotter, to me!" He shouted, if she still had mobility or voice she could find assistance by him or help him find her.

Cass shook her head firmly as Fenris ordered her to stay in the room, and slipped out of the room after him, her gun at the ready. "Fuck that," she asserted, her voice low as she fell into a guarded stance, looking up and down the dusty corridor for any sign of the young woman. It was a flash of blonde hair that caught her eye, and Cass cocked her head to the left. "She's down here," she whispered, starting to slowly head in the direction of what she had seen.

Fenris strode down the hall toward the indicated spot, only mildly grumbling about women who didn't do what they were told by pack leader, etc.. He was going where indicated but his eyes had nothing to do with the blond but rather on what might be around them in the dusty smog.

Smirking at Fenris's discomfort at her having tagged along, Cass held herself close to the wall as they continued down the corridor. Just a few paces down was a hole smashed through the marble of the opposite wall, approximately 8 feet in diameter, and the floor was littered with rubble. Cass frowned, stepping over the debris as carefully and quickly as she could. Another scream, and a muffled roar came from the dust-filled air ahead of them.

Fenris looked toward the sound and rolled his neck. "Leave her, especially if she's dead." Fenris moved forward, keeping his eyes peeled for the source of all the roaring and holding his own challenge in check. No telling what they were up against but if Cass was going to be out there with him she was going to be nearby where her weapon would do him good and he could do her good.

"We're not leaving her, she's not dead," asserted Cass. That was the one good thing about being Manannan's daughter: the presence of death was a physical thing to her, almost something she could taste... and it just wasn't there. A sudden silence, followed by a slight sucking sound, told Fenris and Cass that they were getting close. There was a smell of damp clinging to the air, and the dust was starting to clear. There, at the end of the corridor was a huge serpentine creature, glistening white, looking to be over 20ft long. And, trapped in its coils, was Thor's daughter, still struggling as it coated her with a silvery slime.

"Shoot it." Fenris started down the hallway. He wasn't running, charging, or the like, but there was definitely intent in his approach to the creature as he cracked his knuckles. At just the right moment Fenris lunged, darting in and landing a massive blow on the serpentine form before him where it had coiled around Thorsdotter.

The serpentine creature roared... but didn't let go, instead snapping in Fenris's direction, not quite able to reach him without letting go of Thor's daughter. Cass narrowed her eyes, not overly comfortable about shooting it, but taking aim at the creature's head, she fired off a careful shot. She hit it, but it bounced off the serpent, ricocheting into a wall. "Fuck," she yelled.
